The SEO Guy Who Grew Up on Job Sites
Most marketers who “specialize in trades” picked the niche from a spreadsheet. I got it from my dad.
He ran a custom home building company in Haliburton — Alex Roome Construction. (Yes, Roome. I’m Stephen Roome. Same name, different trade.) I spent my childhood around his job sites and my university summers on them — building garages and custom homes from foundation to finish. ICF foundations, roofing, siding, drywall, and everything in between. I know what a good crew sounds like, what a slow November feels like around the dinner table, and why “just do good work and the phone will ring” is only half true.
The other half of the story
The other half is the business side. I did a BBA with Honours, specialized in Marketing, and I’ve been doing SEO since 2012 — 14 years of it, a lot of that helping trades and home service companies grow. Somewhere along the way I realized the two halves of my life fit together: the companies I understood best were the ones I grew up around, and they were exactly the ones getting burned by marketers who didn’t.
