From a Handful of Calls to “Flooding” in Weeks
Severn Roofing has two sides to the business: shingle roofing, which stays busy on its own, and flat roofing, which was quiet. When we started, the flat roofing side had received about two calls in two weeks, and there was a full flat roofing crew that needed to stay working through the fall and winter.
Within weeks, that changed. In the office manager’s words, sales were “flooding in,” with around 20 new jobs lined up across the business, including the flat roofing work the crew requested.
The Situation
Severn is a strong, established roofer. The work was never the problem. The problem was visibility. When someone in their area searched for flat roof repair or replacement, Severn wasn’t showing up. The site had no dedicated flat roofing page, and the Google Business Profile wasn’t set up to appear for those searches.
They had tried marketing before, including a significant spend on radio, without being able to point to a single job it produced. One of the partners was, understandably, skeptical that any marketing was worth paying for.
What We Did
We led with the fastest and most durable lever for a local roofer: the Google Map (the local 3-pack), because that is where people searching for a roofer actually look.
- Optimized the Google Business Profile so it started appearing for flat roofing searches in their service area.
- Started building the dedicated flat roofing and local service pages the site was missing.
- Set up call tracking so every lead could be counted. No guessing about whether it was working.
We were upfront that SEO compounds over months and that real traction takes time. The Google Profile work is usually what moves first, and that is what we told them to watch.
The Result
It moved fast. Within roughly three weeks, flat roofing calls started coming in through the map. A few weeks after that, the office manager described sales as “flooding in,” with around 20 new jobs lined up, including the flat roofing work the campaign was built to bring in.
“Sales are flooding in. We’ve got around 20 new jobs lined up.”
Office Manager, Severn Roofing
The skeptical partner wanted one thing from marketing: proof it produced work. That is what call tracking and a busy flat roofing crew gave him.
The Honest Part
Results like this are the fast end of what’s possible, and they don’t arrive in a straight line. Some weeks are busier than others, and the deeper organic work compounds over months, not weeks. Not every one of those 20 jobs came from our work either; shingle roofing was already busy. What we can point to is the flat roofing side going from near-silent to active, and the tracked calls that came through the map.
What made Severn move quickly was leading with the Google Map optimization, where local roofing customers actually look, rather than chasing rankings that take longer to build. It helped that the gap was so clear: an idle crew, a service nobody could find, and a fix that didn’t require waiting on a full website rebuild.
If your phone should be ringing more than it is, that’s the work: getting found where your customers are searching, and counting the calls so you know it’s working.
